What do origami and animated GIFs have in common? You can see BOTH this weekend as we turn a vacant lot into an animated GIF playground and makeshift movie theater!
We know, we know. You haven’t heard a peep from us in over a year. What makes us think we can waltz right back into your life and give you the joy of cinema out of nowhere? Because you know you missed us. And it’s been a while since you’ve kicked back and crushed a beer while watching a sweet little indie doc with us. It’ll be just like old times. In a new location!
Gray Area Foundation For The Arts is partnering with NewHive to bring to you UPLOAD.gif – taking original GIF submissions and turning an empty lot into an animated GIF exhibition. Not only that, they’ll also have plenty of workshops for you aspiring GIF artists.
To close out the weekend, Cinema Speakeasy is pleased to present: Between the Folds, a fascinating documentary that examines the art and science of a piece of folded paper – origami. Much like animated GIFs, it’s a process about making art based on constraint and math. I see the venn diagrams in your mind being drawn as we speak.
